2014 Liège-Bastone-Liège

2014 Liège-Bastonne-Liège

Today is the day of King Philippe times two
Our cycling highness and royalty who'll view
Philippe Gilbert brought in 10, 000 fans
The King, son of Albert, is here to shake hands
Two hours in and the pace is high
The sprint intermediate is a lush piece of pie
5,000 euros is not liver chopped
Which of the five leaders will end up on top?
Cannons' Michel Koch takes the purse
He'll have to buy the pizza
But it could be worse
Sky's Chris Froome has a bad cough
For reasons of health he has the day off
This is Gilbert country --the land of his birth
He's feeling strong and is failure adverse
Valverde is the fave if you're laying a bet
But do not count Philippe out yet
The third hour of racing goes by like a minute
A number of teams have men who can win it
The race is still young and the pace crazy
Add in 10 climbs there's no time to be lazy
Jakobs looks strong on the Côte de St-Roch
T. Voeckler has problems and has to stop
Today marks this race's 100th edition
A physical nightmare if not in condition
If I were having a problem staying awake
Some riders veer off for a natural break
Speaking of breaks the gap is shrinking
Heads up for all no time for blinking
Omega P, Movistar, and BMC
Share work in the bunch happily
Out for the count is Andy Schleck
Another disappointment for Trek
Purito is not feeling too swift
Europcar is too far up to notice this
Rui Costa is down with others three
They all went down quite heavily
The racing conditions today
Are nothing short of parfait--parfait!
It's curtains for Rui
Unfortunate bwoy!
Eurocar takes the lead
The zone awaits second feed
The terrain angles up
No time to sup
Just gobble what you need
With km sitll at 65
It's a struggle just to stay alive
Tinko-Saxoff takes a turn
I hope they've energy to burn
Pieter J dominates the break
A sterling effort he does make
The Côte de la Redoute
Is La Doyenne's brute
Everyone is very worn
Miles and hills they have borne
I, myself, am fading fast
But not because of no breakfast
La Doyenne exacts her toll
She's tough! That's no hyperbole
OPQS supports Kwiatkowski
They charge the slope with Martin, T.
The road is painted
 stroke by stroke
'Go Phil!' it says
We can but hope!!
"Phil", "Phil", "Phil", "Phil"
Hope that helps him up the hill
Venter and Bono are hanging in
showing strength 'tho they can't win
Bono for Lampre reps the break
The charging remnant of escape
Three more big climbs for La Doyenne
Her appetite--she likes big men!
A warrior queen at 100 years
She brings so many lads to tears
Jan Bakelants has to change his bike
He won't give up without a fight
Matteo Bono refuses to quit
You want perseverance
This is it!
20 KM! Zoot alors!
Who will find an open door?
Ag2R with Possovivo
Arredondo?
Sammy S steps up
And shows some brio
Is he fronting for our Phil?
Or merely racing up a hill?
Nibali takes his chance to fly
Valverde flies like a butterfly
Kreuziger is there and Moreno
Gilbert's involved--is he ready to go?
The two tiny dancers clamber uphill
Only to be swallowed up at will
Kilometers remaining 10
A danger zone for all strong men
At spitting distance from Ans
A large lead group respect demands
Côte de St-Nicolas
It's heads up for Green-Orica
Possovivo small but plucky
Will his race today be lucky?
Caruso is his right hand man
This was not a thought out plan
Caruso does the humping
Dan Martin goes and takes a fall
Garrans wins!
Congrats to GreenEdge
Valverde came two
Kwaitkowski came third
La Doyenne made us sweat
True to her word!
Philippe G. came in eight
His race today
 brought Belge heartache

2014 La Flèche-Wallonne

Navardauskas, Van Hecke, and Clarke, J
Are the three men to breakaway
They lead as the race achieves midway
With a 6:15 lead on the Côte d'A
The serpentine heights of the Mur de Huy
Who'll climb twice successfully?
Dan Martin's knee injury
Is said to be in full recovery
Good enough for the Wall of Huy?
We will have to wait and see
And what of darling Philippe G?
Tucked in the pack expectantly
The course this year has an altered finale
Will Phil add Flèche-Wallone to his tally?
And as an aside and by the way
The planets are going ape today
We're at the apex of a cardinal square
Will that mean a win for United-Healthcare?
It's best to expect the unexpected
No scenario can be rejected
BMC under Allen Peiper
Is like a sweet peach
But could it be riper?
Lampre-Merida supports Costa, Rui
Also Diego Ulissi
2014 of La Flèche-Wallone
features a women's' peloton
With KMs to go under 40
the drama awaits on the Mur de Huy
A climb which must be made times three
It's on the second climb of the Côte d'Ahin
That the ranks of riders start to thin
The pace goes up exponentially
Before the ascent of the Mur de Huy
KMs left are 23
As the bunch toils up the Mur de Huy
BMC asserts their authority
Katusha stands firm for Moreno, D.
Ditto Omega-P for Mike Kwaitkowski
One KM is left to ride
Valverde takes it in his stride
Dan Martin takes second
Kwaitkowski three
All hail to the victors on the Mur de Huy

Amstel Gold 2014

Amstel Gold 2014

80 KM to go
The pace is high at 40
The break is 6 minutes ahead
The crashes have been dirty
Andy Schleck crashed out
As has Rodriguez, Purito
And Dan Martin, ditto
Gerrans and Valverde are in form
And P. Gilbert--to manner born
Gerraint Thomas is out
Kwiatskowski steps quick
As well as Tony Martin
Who wants to take his licks
The race starts to tighten
on the Gulpenerberg
Astansa's strong men
Hope to be heard
43 km left on the route
BMC and Quick Step
Start to look cute
Tony Martin has to change bikes
His leader MK caused that!--Yikes!
Fun begins on the Eyserboweg
Tommy V decides to shake a leg
Betancur is hanging in
What is up with Dumoulin?
Stybar,  Fugslang, Van Avermaet
follow the break to reel it back
Keutenberg shows off Kolobnev
He's got a good engine to rev
18 KM on tap
Riblon causes Sean K to clap
Sky hangs in and BMC
Hope they ride for Philippe G
8 km remain
it's too soon to call the game
Van Avermaet hits the final climb
BMC makes up for lost time
Gilbert steps on the gas
Taking a tailwind in his teeth
He's angel wings with wind beneath
He wins the race with style and fashion
Takes his throne with king like passion
Amstel Gold is his times three
He seemed to win so easily
Two comes Vandendert for Lottto B
Orica Greens' Gerrans takes three
The win was classic Phillipe G
A happy Easter treat for me
He dominates the Caulberg peak

A lovely ride for our Philippe!

Paris-Roubaix 2014

The break is 8
after 50 km
Paris-Roubaix begins again
51 k of pavé awaits
Hard knocks for the break
To contemplate
Every heart must fill with dread
As the cobbles loom ahead
The pace is fast at over 46 k
Racing towards the first pavé
Tom Boonen has a puncture
His first in 14 starts
He bounces back in beat of heart
25 KM to Forest of A
Always important in Paris-Roubaix
Dust is the enemy today
As they draw close to Arenberg Forêt
Sky leads into the breach
With the faves right behind
Napoleonic cobbles are never kind
Teams vie for position at head of the pack
Glad that Arenberg is at their backs
A team mates' faux pas puts Fab off his bike
Kristoff crashed out, too, an unhappy sight
Trek's Roulston, H. caused the crash
Boonen at the head makes full on dash
Hell of the North
Stays on course
Tom Boon breaks out looking strong!
Cancellara and Wigs still roll along
G. Thomas still powering in the front
The other lads refuse to hump
Boonen moves up signaling his ire
He's been frustrated 'tho he's on fire
So far it's been a war of attrition
Are Wigs and Thor in winning condition?
Mons-en-Pévèle
 pavé hell
Trek takes up the chase for Spart
Can he finish what they start?
Fab sucks gels with super cool
He takes off-- the race to rule
Sagan steps up with something slick
Will is bad day start to click?
Everybody seems to agree
Pete's showing great maturity
Everyone is at their limit
So much talent is still in it
Dust dervishes dance in glee
through an attack by Fabian C
Tom B labors like Hercules
Sagan sips liquid feigning ease
He attacks eats up the slack
He goes alone not looking back!
The lad shows cheek--you must admit
Vanmarcke decides to go for it
Sagan outrides even the dust
Or is it Brad in which we trust?
Degenkolb is hanging in
We couldn't say right now who'll win
Stybar is there, he deserves a note
Terpstra too is holding hope
De Baker rides for Degenkolb
He's doing a mighty job
Terpstra attacks in a lull petite
Will he put Gods to defeat?
He's in the zone and heading home
Speeding towards the Velodrome
He takes his glory easily
What a ride for Omega P!
John Degenkolb takes two
Cancellara takes three
I think this race will make history
So many faves showed  form today
A super edition of Paris-Roubaix

De Ronde Van Vlaanderen 2014

It's damp in Brugge
There have been crashes
A  nine man break
Are making  dashes
Taylor Phinney is there
For BMC
Is this his chance
To make history?
In this Ronde, apparently
The big teams will explode
eventually
That's Cannon, Trek, Sky,
and Omega P
They'll want to conserve their energy
Garmin loses Vansummeren
Victim of  crash caused by a
 woman!
Her condition is critical
Sad to say
Hope that she survives the day
60 KM have been done
The break has four minutes
Hope they're paying attention
The Oude Kwaremont may start
natural selection
17 climbs provide no protection
Lotto's Roelandts crashes
Injuries their hopes smashes
120 KM left
Sagan changes his wheel and vest
Omega and Trek put on the gas
Tom Boonen shows some sass
A big crash!  Devolder is on his ass
He makes it to the Paddestratt
Popovych downed by a spectator
He will have to continue later
100 KM to go
How they manage I don’t know
Devolder chases for Trek
Will injuries hold him in check?
I made myself a nice pique-nique
But too excited to really eat
So much pressure on Fabian C
I'm vicariously feeling anxiety
The hellingen are just that
Leaving many riders flat
The Paterberg takes its toll
Six more hills yet to roll
Devolder crashes again
but still goes on
With a giant lump on his arm
Still in strength Omega P
Not so solo Fabian, C
Ditto Cannon's Sagan P.
I have to make a recording date
I'll finish the race
'Tho I might be late!
Cancellara wins!!!!!
Over two guys named Van
Avermaet made second
Then Vanmarcke
Spartacus had it from the start
He truly is the winning man
And that wraps it up from Flan!!!!
